Bhavnagar

Bhavnagar is an all-weather berthing port for smaller vessels located in the Gulf of Cambay on the west coast of India. Draft available at jetty is up to 4 metres, whereas vessels up to 12 metres, draft are recommended at DWA anchorage.

The industrial development in Bhavnagar is attributed to the presence of ship recycling, rolling mills and industrial furnace, diamond cutting and polishing, cement, gypsum and food processing. All the industries present contribute immensely to the economy of Bhavnagar. The majority of its investment (87%) is witnessed in infrastructure development.

Alang in Bhavnagar has Asia’s largest ship recycling unit. It is also one of the world’s largest ship recycling unit in terms of market share. Industrial oxygen is the second activity related to the ship breaking industry. There are 137 units registered and engaged in this activity. Other industries at Bhavnagar include chemicals, engineering, glass, ceramics, wood products and salt.

Apart from the ship breaking industry, the second largest small scale and cottage scale industry is currently diamond cutting and polishing. There are 4,340 units in diamond cutting and polishing.

83 industrial clusters have been identified for different industry groups in the State, which have been developed at different locations. The cluster-based development approach has helped improve the cost competitiveness of industries, thereby developing common facilities, market centres and brand names, boosting skills. A total of eleven Industrial estates are present in Bhavnagar. There are over 10,192 industrial units registered in Bhavnagar, out of which 10,080 are small and medium scale industrial units.
