One finds out that India is new to the concept of clusters when maritime industry is the topic of discussion. The last time when cluster development was talked about in the country was when Gujarat Maritime Board had successfully implemented the cluster based approach for development of shipbuilding yards in 2007.
To integrate the soft as well as the hard infrastructure in the maritime industry under one umbrella, we are seriously contemplating development of a Maritime Cluster in India.
We aim to capitalize on Gujarat’s 1600 km long coastline by setting up a Maritime Cluster - an ecosystem that’ll cover services providers and other stakeholders - as a one-stop solution for the entire maritime fraternity.

Gujarat Maritime Board was created in 1982 under the Gujarat Maritime Board Act, 1981 to manage, control and administer the minor ports of Gujarat. GMB presently manages the 48 non major ports of the State.
Gujarat Maritime University has been established under the Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2009. The prime objective of Gujarat Maritime University is to be a global centre of excellence in maritime education, research and development, professional training.
