Porbandar

Porbandar Group of Ports are located in Junagadh district of Gujarat. Porbandar is an important hub for economic activities since a long time. With the Ports in the district, it offers an advantage to support the growth of industries, making it a base for export and import of goods.

With the availability of large reserves of important minerals like limestone, chalk and bauxite in the district, many mineral-based and cement industries have set up their operations in Porbandar. Porbandar contributes to Gujarat’s approx. two-third of chalk reserve. Metallurgical industries, Textiles, Food and Agri-based industries and Cement industry are the other major sectors that make a significant contribution to the economy of the district. Fishing industry is a prominent activity in Porbandar with Silver Sea Foods emerging as one of the major sea food processing companies in the district.

Being a seaport, the district has thrived on the port-based industry, fishing industry. Some of the major activities at this port include import of fertilisers, coal, LPG, export of oil cakes, cement, chemicals and raw cotton.

Porbandar has played a pivotal role in the industrial development of the Gujarat state. The small-scale industries have been developed in the nearby area of Porbandar city and Dharampur industrial estate. There are fish processing units, cold storage for fish, fishing net industries, mosaic tiles industries, Emery abrasive units, cement articles manufacturing units as well as auto servicing units situated in the district.

The district comprises of 3 talukas viz. Porbandar, Ranavav, and Kutiyana. The Focus industry sectors of districts are Port and Ship Building, Cement industry and Mineral-based Industries. The districts have 3 industrial areas with approx. 120 units. Presence of a port centre has offered a cutting edge to the district to catalyse the growth of industries, making it a terminal for export and import of goods.
