Jafrabad is an all-weather direct berthing port located inside Jafrabad creek in the Gulf of Cambay on the south-west coast of Saurashtra, on the west coast of India.
Jafrabad Group of Ports lie in the Amreli district, which is rich in natural minerals like Limestone, Bauxite, Granite, Gypsum Calcite, Sand Soil, etc. The region also houses salt farms along the coastline of Rajula and Jafrabad Talukas, which is used for the production of Soda Ash & Chemicals. Amreli’s major industries include Engineering, Port & Ship Building and Cement and Minerals. Amreli district is also home to India’s first private port – Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited.
Large / Medium Scale Industries / Public Sector Undertaking units, such as UltraTech Cement, Alcock Ashdown Gujarat, Pipavav Port, Pipavav Ship Yard, Narmada Cement, Larsen & Toubro Cement, Dharamshi Morarji Chemicals, Gujarat State Co-operative Marketing Federation and SHV Energy Pvt Ltd, have contributed to a great extent in the industrial development of Amreli district.
One SEZ was notified in Amreli in 2008. One is the E-Complex Private Limited – an Engineering SEZ spread over about 124 Ha in Jafrabad Taluka. The key industries include large steel structural parts, offshore / ship engineering equipment & components, forgings, castings etc. Another SEZ, PSL Limited was given in-principle approval as Alternate Energy and Ancillaries SEZ spread over 105 Ha.
A total of eight Industrial estates are present in Amreli. There are total 6,689 industrial units registered in Amreli District. Some of the key small-scale industries of Amreli include Food Industries, Textile Industries, Wood Industries, Paper & Paper-based Industries, Leather, Chemical, Rubber, Ferrous Metal / Non-ferrous, Electrical Machinery, Cement Industries and Transport machinery. Food and Textile industries have the maximum industrial units followed by wood and ferrous metal industries. Apart from that, one SIR has been proposed in close vicinity of Sutrapada taluka of Junagadh which is 132 km away from Jafrabad Group of Ports.
