Veraval

The Veraval Group Ports are situated in the Gir Somnath district which is an important hub for fisheries industry. Veraval is home to a large number of fish processing factories in GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) which export seafood to US, Japan, SE Asian, Gulf and EU Countries.

Gir Somnath district is blessed with mineral deposits. The district has huge stock of limestone along the coastal belt and thus has attracted the cement industries. These industries are functioning at Kodinar and at village Morasa (Sutrapada taluka). Limestone is the major mineral of the district. Building Limestone, Black trap, Ordinary Clay and Ordinary sand are minor minerals available in the district.

The economy is well augmented by the presence of a well-established industrial infrastructure in the district. There is presence of industrial estates and parks in the Gir Somnath district. Sectors such as cement, edible oil refinery plants, textiles, engineering and fish processing also contributes to the economy.

Fish processing industry is a major sector in the Gir Somnath district with processed fish exported to Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Dubai and various other parts of the world. The seafood-industry which was started through government initiative is now in its prime and many importers are attracted towards Veraval across the globe.

Regional research centres of Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) and Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) situated at Veraval support in development of fisheries sector in Gujarat.

Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd, one of India’s largest rayon manufacturing companies is located in Veraval. There are various chemical, thread and cement companies around Veraval which provide employment to the locals. The major industries are Indian Rayon Unit of Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd., Gujarat Ambuja Cement Ltd, Gujarat Sidhee Cement Ltd and Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Ltd.
